The South East corner of England is a treasure house of natural beauty set with castles and beautiful stately homes. We can take our pick of many. Day Trips - Further Afield
East Anglia
See the ancient university town with colleges dating from 13th century. See the world-renowned Kings College Chapel (15th & 16th Centuries). Return through the countryside which John Constable gave to the world in his paintings. Perhaps visit Hatfield House where Elizabeth I was held before becoming Queen (1553) or Woburn Abbey, the home of the Dukes of Bedford.
North Of London
By contrast you should visit the dreaming spires of England's oldest university town with the earliest colleges dating from the early 13th century. See the Ashmolean Museum and lunch in a friendly pub. Then on to Blenheim Palace, the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill.
The Cotswolds
A visit to the heart of rural England, with its medieval towns and thatched cottages set in rolling hills and valleys, is a must for every visitor to Britain. (A short visit to Blenheim Palace is possible).
Additional Day Trips
Stratford On Avon
Travelling by way of Oxford and Blenheim Palace and cutting through the Cotswolds, we will visit the home town of William Shakespeare. We will see where he was born, where he went to school, where his bride and wife Anne Hathaway lived, and where John Harvard's mother lived. This is an essential visit for lovers of the 'Immortal Bard'. Return by way of Warwick Castle.
Bath
We will see this magnificent, very special European Heritage City which is the only city in Britain built on hot springs, with its extensive Roman remains and Regency glories. If time allows, we could also see the prettiest village in England - Castle Combe.
Winchester, Salisbury & Mystic Stonehenge
See the enigma of Stonehenge, built 5000 years ago, and then on to Winchester and Salisbury. These two are both ancient and very beautiful cities with large cathedrals. Winchester is the former Anglo Saxon capital of Alfred the Great, and Salisbury has the tallest cathedral steeple (404 feet) in Britain, made famous by John Constable's painting.
