Tours of Languedoc, Roussillon and Catalonia
Decide on duration, cost level and particular interest and I will prepare your unique itinerary.
Arrival at either Avignon or Montpellier airports. You chose or even arrive by train (TGV) from Paris.
Avignon - one of the most fascinating cities of southern France. The home of the Popes from 1309 to 1377 or, perhaps, 1403. Fine hotels and restaurants and, of course, Le Pont d'Avignon almost across the Rhone.
Montpellier. A very lively university city. The city was founded in the 10th century relatively late for towns, many of Roman origin, in this area.
We will spend two nights at our arrival city. For local exploration.
Transportation
During the rest of our tour we will head westwards from our start point and aim for our departure from Toulouse. We will see some of the finest vineyards of the region. We will sample many of the excellent and very good value wines. Buy what you can. Considering the cost of the best wines this would be a very sensible thing to do.
However we will not spend our entire time gazing on the grape and its products, however noble. We will also see the principal sights which include:

- Roman cities - Nimes or Arles. Astonishing Roman amphitheatres and Bull Fights.
- Le Pont du Gard a remarkable triple arched aqueduct of Roman times.
- Coastal delights and very fine seafood restaurants, try "Les Jardins de la Mer" at Bouzigues
- The Cathar trail. The horrifying trail of destruction wrought in the 14th century.
- Carcassonne - The perfectly restored citadel and town originating in the 2nd century BC.
- The Prieure de Serrabone perched high on the Cathar sacred mountain, the Pic de Canigou.
- Pezenas - A compact and charming ancient town favoured by the dramatist Moliere (1650s).
- Collioure - The bright Mediterranean colours attracted the artist Matisse in 1905. A gem.
- Perpignan - A Catalan town with a hot southern feel. Roussillon's vibrant capital. Toulouse. A major city with 21st century aero-space industry and an ancient heart. And so much more.
Duration:- I would suggest a minimum of 7 full days.
Departure from: Toulouse International Airport.
Catalonia, Rosas and Barcelona 4 Day Extension
Add four more days and we could cross into Spain and with PLENTY of notice it might JUST be possible to dine or lunch at El Bulli (Chef/Patron Ferran Adria). This is considered by many to be the BEST restaurant in the world; We could then explore the Catalan coast (La Costa Brava) with its many seaside jewels and spend a full day in Barcelona with a departure from Barcelona Airport. Just a tip! - You might try the "Espardenas" in one of Barcelona's fabulous seafood reataurants. And who could miss Antoni Gaudi's dreamlike city?
Extension departure from Barcelona International Airport.
