BATTLEFIELD TOURING with LIBERTY ROAD

CemetaryAfter my military career I trained and qualified as a professional Blue Badge tour guide and lecturer in 1985 since when I have undertaken many Battlefield Tours as well as the full range of "normal" tours.. The majority of the battlefield tours have been in connection with all aspects of the Battle of Normandy and the Allied landings on the D-Day beaches in June 1944. However other popular tours have been to the Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge (Bastogne in December 1944), The Huertgen Forest and the Crossing of the Rhine to the ending of World War II in May 1945. Other visitors have sought my help with The Battle of Hastings and the Invasion of England in 1066, others have delved further back to the 400 year Roman occupation of Britain from AD 43 to the mid 5th century. In short there is a wealth of historical and contemporary sites of interest to be visited from Caesar's exploratory visit to Britain in BC 54 to the Cold War of the 20th century of which I have personal experience.

Over the years I have set up and run my own tours and also in conjunction with some of the major Battlefield tour operators in the UK and the USA. This has led to a close link up with the former Galaxy Tours of Philadelphia and now their successors, (www.gomilspec.com).

LIBERTY ROAD

Bob at Utah Beach with a party looking at the KM00 marker on the Liberty HighwayA few years ago I combined my experiences with those of Patrick Hinchy, a very experienced battlefield historian, guide and tour manager. Together we set up Liberty Road (www.libertyroad.com) as the UK management team for Mil Spec Tours. This has been and continues to be a very successful and happy marriage. Liberty Road with Abbey Connoisseur Tours also sets up its own Battlefield tours (and many other types) for parties both large and small for visitors from all corners of the world. These cover Western Europe and have recently extended into Poland. We are now eagerly looking eastwards.

THE GUILD OF BATTLEFIELD GUIDES.

Both Patrick and I are members of this specialist and highly regarded Guild. Through it we have access to a very large pool of expert battlefield guides and eminent historians. You may wish to view the Guild's website at www.battleguides.org.

STOP PRESS - Lt Gen Sir Philip Trousdell KBE CB

Lt Gen Sir Philip & Lady Trousdell looking a bit floweryGeneral Trousdell, who has just recently retired from the Army, has joined us at Liberty Road as an Associate Consultant. Sir Philip is the Colonel of The Royal Irish Regiment which is the successor to The Royal Irish Rangers in which we both served. He is also Colonel Commandant of the Brigade of Gurkhas whose soldiers are held in very high esteem and affection by the rest of the British Army. Philip is making his "maiden" tour with me in early August to the D-Day beaches in Normandy. (It is of interest that this is not the first time that he will have been under my command!) He has served widely around the world. Of particular interest to us is the fact that he recently held the post of Commandant of the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.
